Dear Friends,It's easy to fall in love with Bali. Ancient temples stand in harmony with the extraordinary beauty of their natural settings, while terraced fields, volcanic peaks and splendid beaches entice the visitor. Bali's abundantly fertile land allowed her people to develop a richly artistic culture. This is where Novica Co-founder Armenia invited Elizabeth Gilbert to Felipe's party, lending the author her own jewelry and perfume for the event. And Liz and Felipe fell in love.Let's celebrate love with up to 10% off on selected treasures from the island of the gods.~ Carol Wheeler, NOVICA International Correspondent
"She's a butterfly, this Armenia. And she couldn't stay for too long at Wayan's shop because she had work to do, but that didn't stop her from inviting me to a party tonight. She knows another Brazilian expat in Ubud, she told me, and he's hosting a special event at a nice restaurant this evening. He'll be cooking a feijoadaa traditional Brazilian feast consisting of massive piles of pork and black beans. There will be Brazilian cocktails, as well. Lots of interesting expatriates from all over the world who live here in Bali. Would I care to come? They might all go out dancing later, too. She doesn't know if I like parties, but..."Cocktails? Dancing? Piles of pork?"Of course I'll come."Elizabeth GilbertEat, Pray, Love, pp 265-266

Batik from Bali and Java is special. Certain patterns and motifs were once reserved for Javanese royalty, sultans and sometimes brides and bridegrooms. Batik is a meticulous wax resist process in which melted wax is painted or stamped by hand onto areas of silk or cotton where color is not desired. When the fabric is crumpled into the dying solution, the wax cracks, creating an attractive network of fine lines. The wax is removed and the process is repeated for each color utilized, achieving an impressive gradation of colors. Some Javanese batik was once adorned with precious gold leaf or gold dust.
