Going into the final round, the always exciting and unpredictable Phil Mickelson was tied for the lead with up and coming steady man Bill Haas, with long bombing and Tour young studs Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson, Jhonattan Vegas, and Hunter Mahan also in the mix. A lefty ended up winning, except for that it wasn’t the one that we all expected. Tour goofball and Twitter happy left hander Bubba Watson fired a final round 67, including a clutch 12-footer for birdie on the 72nd hole to defeat fellow left hander Phil Mickelson by one shot for his second career victory. Peculiarly, Phil laying-up on the final hole may have been the most exciting moment of the tourney. Instead of opting to go for the par 5 18th hole in two shots to try for a tying eagle putt, Phil elected to lay-up and opted to try and hole a 72-yard wedge shot instead. After walking up to the green to survey every possible angle and beak, Phil had his caddie “Bones” tend the pin and nearly holed his wedge shot, as his ball landed six inches away from the cup and spun back to just 2-feet behind the hole. Alas, Phil came up just short for the week, but provided some great excitement along the way. Who needs Tiger anyway? | | | | | outlet15 | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
